Junior Entrepreneur Programme 2017

Over the last number of months the pupils of Fifth and Sixth Class, Scoil Mhuire NS, Bornacoola, have been taking part in the Junior Entrepreneur Programme. A national initiative, the aim of the programme is to introduce primary school pupils to the idea of entrepreneurship, while engaging in group activities and collaboration. In the earlier stages of the programme they explored ideas in groups and presented them at Dragons Den event held in the school after which their ‘Big Idea’ was selected. They would like to thank Derek Hunt, Mary Reynolds and Jillian Walpole for being very probing and most helpful Dragons!

The initiative they came up with, in conjunction with the Dragons, was ‘Eir-Rings’, a novel and unique idea in which they have produced modestly priced key rings on which are contained your personal Eircode. They conducted market research into the product through the greater school community and discovered that many people do not know their Eircode readily. This product ensures that your Eircode is always close at hand by being contained on a simple device like a key ring. The pupils assemble the product simply at school and all that is required in advance is that potential customers look up their Eircode and send it to the school.

The product has proved to be a great hit among the school community and the pupils would like to offer their product to the wider community beyond. The pupils would like to acknowledge Raymond Latimer of Printworks, Boyle, for sponsoring the excellently produced inserts.
