Scoil Mhuire NS participates in LearnStorm Ireland 2016
LearnStorm Ireland is a free Maths Mastery Challenge powered by khanacademy.org and is designed to be of benefit in challenging and improving pupils mathematical skills across all grades from 4th Class Primary School to 5th Year Secondary School.
This year our pupils from 4th to 6th Classes completed the nine week challenge, commencing in late January and concluding in early April. They embraced the ethos and spirit of the challenge with amazing results. The vast bulk of the work was completed by the pupils in their spare time at home, as they grasped the opportunity to be involved in maths activities that may otherwise not have been undertaken.
Some of the highlights of their involvement are outlined below:
200 hrs Maths Activity in total over nine weeks
7.15 hrs per Student over the nine weeks
2.4 Million points earned
Vast majority of this work done outside of school hours
Engaging and enjoyable for all.
Regular school appearances on national weekly leader board across the various categories
16 Students received certificates for their work, having appeared in the National weekly Top 100 Report
10 Students were invited/selected to attend Provincial Event in GMIT, Galway, on May 7, 2016 and 4 selected to attend National Finals in Dublin Castle on May 22, 2016
